Advani wants to be the PM , will the UPA oblige
by PKN on Dec 30, 2007 10:25 PM

The NDA can win only if Dr Singh helps them with the same sincerity he did during the Gujarat elections. 'Minorties have a the first right to all national resources' "15% of all Plan allaocation for Muslims " We will reopen all Post Godhra riot cases"
If Dr Singh continues on those lines he will create enough panic among the Hindus to vote en-masse for the BJP.
The only way BJP can hope to come to power is if there are enough panic-striken Hindus who will ignore Mandal politics and vote on religious basis.
As far as allies are concerned, only the naive are talking of fact that DMK would not support the NDA. Correct but inconsequential since in the next elections its going to be the turn of the AIDMK to ride back on the wave of the proverbial anti-incumbancy factor. Good news for the BJP ? Not really Karunandhi is easier to manage than the tempermental Jayalalithaa.
The only problem that Advani faces is that development plank that Modi could use is going to work against Advani since the UPA has a done a good job. The middle class which rooted for the Modi in Gujarat at least logically on an All India basis would root for the UPA. Minoritism, terrorism , internal security etc are points on which the UPA would find the going tough .
It is a toss up . Let them dream.
The only thing we can be sure is that Barkha Dutt and Sagarika Ghosh will campaign for the UPA. Their channels will pitch in extensively to cover Rahul's Roadshows - the only thing that will help the ND
