RE:Result of Religion, the Opium of Life
by Serpicus on Dec 28, 2007 01:20 AM

well firstly it's "Opiate" not "Opium".
Secondly, it has less to do with religion, and more to do with politics.
Terrorism itself is a geo-political phenomenon not a religious one. Like all geo-political movements it draws on the most common and resounding plank from which to attract followers.
In India we have the VHP and RSS, exact mirrors of Al-Qaeda and the Nazi party. In their conduct and the aggressive approach we see a common behavioural pattern.
In the US, Ireland and the like we have extremist and violent groups that draw on religion and race to garner support.
It is a fallacy to oversimplify by blaming religion for anything and everything.
Let's not forget that Tianaman square and the Bolshevik revolution, as well as Nazism and racism are products of atheism.
In the end it is the people who are extremists, using ideology as a pretext to give vent to their own innate aggression and hate.
