Adhi shankaracharya, Swami Vivekananda, Sree Narayana Guru, Annamacharya,... all the hindu saints have said the same thing. Fedual kings want an order in the society, so they never took any action against people who did not follow it correctly. Why wud english bother about it? They cud have banned it when india got independence, but the politicians are increasing for vote bank.
