Narendra Modi had almost the whole nation against it. Thanks to the media and the people outside Gujrat who form their opinion based on what they read in the media, the whole nation had turned against him. This was a man who braved the challenge and single handedly fought against it. People of Gujrat had seen how this man had worked for them - Good administration, no corruption, crisp, no-non sense attitude and clear message. No wonder that he won. Lets not confuse it with a Hindu wave. In the elections in other states (or even if it was the case in Gujrat) if there is no message, no leadrship then BJP should not expect to win.
