Mutual Recriminations NO solution
by Ranjan on Dec 24, 2007 01:46 AM

So much mutual recrimination!! that is no solution.
Modi must ensure that the Muslims can participate in the 'development'. Muslims must stop going back centuries in history. Hindus must stop trashing 'minorities'. If there is enough development, you think Muslims and Hindus will care for the rhetoric of the Mullahs and the Mahants. You think caste and religious politics will still be around if everyone gets a good portion of the pie? Elections are lost and won on the gap between promise and performance, which is the source of rhetorical and political power. In India, no leader is honest enough to fulfill his promises because development means prosperity and loss of votes. Keeping poverty alive gives leaders the scope to engage in power-politics including caste and communal issues and sentimental-historical rhetoric.
Of course Indians are too busy earning their dal-roti, they do not have the time nor the energy to pull up their leaders who will target the hungry many. Modi has a real chance now to bring all into the fold of development and erase caste and religious politics from Gujarat, because he no longer needs to prove a point to his political opponents. May be other leaders will follow the example in course of time.
