The Election Commission in India has over the years done a wonderful job. The true test of a good democracy is to see that the peoples' verdict translates exactly in to the final verdict of any poll. I am sure that this will continue to happen till political parties starts filling the EC with thier own people. Hopefully a vigilant public opinion will ensure that this doesnot happen. One critical issue that EC must need to address is the manner a large section both the print and visual media is playing politics . Rediff may be forgiven for the headlines it used. Consider the ones seen today. 'Satta Market Trashes Modi' ( IBN-CNN) , Satta Market Dumps Modi ( TOI) . The headlines only highlight the bais. Can such media continue to continue thier campaigning after it ends. If no the EC must consider how NDTV even on voting day of Phase I was running news highlighting Patel discontent with Modi. With ceiling on Poll expenses should such indirect campaigning cost not be factored into poll expenses of the candidates being 'sponsered' by the media? This issue must be addressed by not only by the EC but the govenrment as well as the judiciary. Otherwise is a sense it would be a manupilation of the people by media !
