Indian democracy is seen as a miracle as it is still existing! However, one should not forget that the Indian democracy is actually weakening day by day and the deterioration rate is increasing year after year.
Indian democracy instead of strengthening since Nehrus times when India was economically very weak, has in fact deteriorated decade after decade despite improving economically! Actually, with increasing economic development one expects increasing strength of democratic institutions and there by their representatives.
One is expected to see more educated and more responsible people being elected to the Parliament. But in the lower house it is the least educated and even convicted criminals with several others with many criminal charges against them (most of them are not politically motivated)are being elected to the Lok Sabha. Rajya Sabha was actually meant for intellectutals who might not have public support and hence could not get elected to the Lok Sabha on their own. They were meant to check the Lok Sabha who sometimes are tempted to go with populist yet undesirable legislations. But what is happening? Rajya Sabha has become a recluse who were defeated in Lok Sabha elections Eg.Shivraj Patil. And it became a place for those young children of the major political leaders; Eg. Supriya Pawar,(SharadPawars daugther) KaniMozhi (Karunanidhis daughter. WHat kind of intellectuals are these?
