Corrupton and Social responsibility
by PANIWALA AMIN A on Dec 19, 2007 05:58 PM

If we look back Indian Democracy has survived because of it started with the lot of positives.
1) It is my view that corruption has increased many fold in these years. Today we have not only corruption from top (from rulers) but also corruption from Bottom (from public) as we see unhelthy competition for money - rat race- lowering the moral values in general public. Now elections are fought based on community / religion (Yadav / Dalits / Hindu or Secular - with the aim to taget Muslim / Christians) - instead of focus on Economic development of the country i.e. on policy matters. These results in increased corruption.
2) Social responsibilty: I was impressed by the influence of empoyees (Union) on the outcome - during Corus negotiatins and now by Ford - for TATA - group who is one of the Indian company having Social responsibility - as one of the MOTTO of the company - but when I watch movement of their stock (specially Rich persons of India resposible for these) with respect to one other company who pays minimum tax (when company pays tax - it is their contribution to the growth of the nation) and lags behind - when you see around for their record of social reposniblity.
It really pains to see that you don't find volunteers for NGO / NGOs being neglected - many of whom are giving best services - but you don't find support for them
Solution lies in education - Literacy and vocation training - but still we don't find any improvement. Education need to be freed
