After emerging from mediaevalism, India is perhaps one of the few inherently democratic countries in the world, owing to the freedom to question guaranteed to every individual historically in this land. I'm not saying we were had guaranteed perfect equality and freedom in the past, but, as Vivekananda said, with all our faults, we were head and shoulders above any other country in that regard.
