In the sixtees Tatas desperately tried to get permission to make cars in India but they were refused licenses even though they were making the best trucks at that time. Banks were not allowed the use of computers because the CITU and the Congress unions said this will result in job losses.In in the eighties if you brought a personal computer like the now obsolete Apple II either it was confiscated or you were allowed to take it after paying heavy fine by the customs. The IT industry could have taken off much earlier butfor the Govts stupid policies. And even their growth is 80s was because -- They flew under the Govts radar.
