some of the reasons that i can think of why hindu countries took to islam ( and also why some hindus convert to islam ) is as follows a) the ruler converted to islam owing to some compulsion ( defeat) or monetary incentive(assurance of wealth/protection) b) conversion on account of marriage/security c) conversion arising out of a disenchantement with existing gods and rituals /scriptures d)conversion to avail of some incentive like a job, some money or survival in a particular society
the disenchantment with caste system and its misuse is exploited by others to convert people from hinduism ( especially lower caste ) into islam . What the converted do not know at the time of conversion is that the projected truth is not the same as the actual reality of Islam. Islam too is subject to misinterpretations, misuse and is in the tight clutches of its maulvies and mullahs who always take / stick to narrow interpretations to protect their hegemony. But then once into its fold it is not easy to exit out. If all people are giving a freedom of choice to decide what they want to do and what they want to follow then a lot of people would want to opt out of Islam as well.. But then in most countries be it malaysia , indonasia or countries of middle east ( chiefly saudi), the followers are kept in a tight leash thru excessive regulations and restrictions. Let people be given freedom to choose their religion without fear or luring, and then alone one would come to know what pe
