The plight of the PIO
by ravi prakash on Dec 12, 2007 07:01 PM

The Indian Identity, like the Russian, the Chinese, or the Jew is unique. Even one hundred years later the Indian will remain so, very much like the Jew. It is way we are wired that makes us Indian. The weight of our heritage, the live and let live mentality- along with Chalta Hai and nothing really matters is all a part of our make up.
Whereever we may reside we will always retain our distinctive character which marks us out from the rest of the world.
It is for this reason that we as a people will be discriminated in foreign lands. Worse fate befalls a person who forsakes his roots.
The temples were built in Malaysia a long time back and the Govt there suddenly found them pagan and worthy of destruction then this is a case of deliberate abuse and putting these long settled minorities on notice. No matter what Malaysia Tourism may project an image of amity among the various communities beckoning Indian tourists with images of a beautiful Malaysia.
It is correct that our PM has voiced concern but in this day and age who heeds to sane voices. On the contrary the Govt of Malaysia has chosen to slap Attempt to Murder charges on the protestors and punish them severly. This is tragic to say. One can only hope that good sense prevails.
