The word 'Hindu' is not the original term for those following it. The original word is 'Sanatana dharma'. Sanatana means Eternal (which has no beginning or end) and dharma means religion or nature of a particular activitiy.
In none of the Vedic scriptures, you will find the term 'Hindu'. Now, why it is called 'Sanatana'? Because our Vedic scriptures propound the eternal dharma of a living entity (jiva). The living entity keeps migrating in this material world from one type of body to another due to its karmic activities and reactions. But only in the human birth, it develops the consciousness to surrender unto the Supremely powerful Lord, who is sac-cid-ananda adi-purusa (Supreme Lord). This is the natural position of the jiva. But unfortunately, today maximum people do not know the real nature of this material world which is bound to have miseries. They blame one another for good and bad, but they forget the real aim of human life which is to love the Supreme Lord, because all the living entities are his part and parcels.
I am sure the teachings of Koran are on similar ground of what I have described above. ALthough the teachings of all religions are in harmony, the followers have failed to understand these teachings and therefore are fighting to impose their thoughts and beliefs on another.
Result? blasphemy of the other religion. What Muslims call as 'Allah', the sanatana dharmis call 'Bhagvan'. By offending Bhagvan, the muslims are offending Allah only. And by of
