Rediff hasn't done its research right. Onam is a festival of keralites, regardless of whether they are hindus, christians or muslims. ALL of them celebrate Onam. It is the collective spirit that aspires to go beyond caste, creed and religion since King Mahabali's reign itself was renowned for being most prosperous where his subjects thrived and were above need or want, were most content. Onam is therefore about equanimity of vision, equality and the spirit of humanity. It is about gratitude to Mother Nature for nurturing us with her bounties.
