Hinduism is the only religion which accepts other religions. Read the Quran or the Bible to find out how they treat other religions. We believe that God occupies more space than is available in this universe. He resides in all of us including stones, trees, animals etc. Hence we worship the human beings and treat some of them like God. Lord Krishna, Ram etc were born as human beings and had the limitations of humans. They are worshipped because they positively affected the lives of millions others.
Regarding Mahabharatha, you missed the whole point. Bhagvat Gita which was the advice given by Lord Krishna to Arjun was exactly because Arjun did not wish to fight his brothers. Lord Krishna explained to him that he has to fight inspite of being brothers for the benifit of those who suffered under their rule. "Dont think about your own self. Do your duty (which for Arjun was fighting the forces of evil)" is the central theme of Mahabharatha.
