If good economy was that better than good weapons, then India would never have been a colony. India was not poor when it was colonised, but it was without unity and primitive in technology.
I want to ask a few questions to PM Singh:
1. You/your officials did not even take India's nuclear experts into confidence initially when the deal was being started to be discussed in public. They had to use th emedia to even bring out their objections. Seeing this, how can India be sure that you are bringing this deal to be beneficial to India. The fact that it is "best deal that could come out", should it be really to India's benefit just for that reason?
2. To give an example of US perfidity towards its own "allies", looking at the current credit problems that US is facing, much of the bad-loans were sold to the banks and financial institutions of its own allies' institutions, which they are beginning to find out now. How can Indians be sure that "bad-loans" of its foriegn policies won't be sold to India so US can stay out of trouble.
3. You keep repeating that India will be able to test its weapons based on its national interests. Does this mean that the US won;t be able to pressurise us when all the Uranium would be bought from them or tyheir allies? On the same point, do you mean that the Indian national interests would have changed by then to keep the electricity going by the reactors and not as much to keep the threats to its integrity at bay?
