Success of the deal is vitally important if our economy has to grow at the present rate. It does not mean that we have to give up our vital interests for the sake of the deal. But we also need to remeber that if want to get something, we have to give something. Basically we have to give our friendship to the US. True friendship is possible between two equals, which we are not. Once an Arab told me,"never be an enemy of America and never be a friend of America". But we are not Arabs. We have our inherent strength We have defied America many times, the highlight being freedom of Bangladesh. I do not see any reason why we should not be able to do it in future if need be. Surely we need America and they need us as much. Having said all these, I do not say that BJP & the left do not have any right to express their reservations, if any. So it needs a thread bare discussion, which unfortubately has not taken place. Before anything, BJP demanded voting with ulterior motive to create problems for Congress and the left. On an issue of vital national interest, they played politics for electoral benefit and that according to me is not nationalism. Left is well known for their anti national approach on many issues. After a thread bare discussion, if BJP's doubts were not addressed to, then they could have demanded voting and the nation would have supported their demand. Pl note, our deal is better than that of China's; Nation should be thankful to PM for that. Regards
