Mr.Shenoy, there are some of your articles which I would not agree with. However, this isn't one of them.
Congrats on good journalism.
For your detractors,
1. A judge knows what crime deserves what sentence.
If someone is sure that the sentence is too harsh (or otherwise) please try becoming a judge of Kode's prominence or a lawyer of Mr.Nikam's diligence. Heck try becoming a criminal lawyer or a judge first.

2. For those who think he is a reformed man: he might have reformed but in the books of law, voluntary reformation doesn't absolve one of his/her crimes.

3. For those who think BJP screwed up justice.Shrikrishna's report: the congress hasn't done anything either. Basically, it is a shame that a justice's report lies uneffected - but justice will take its course. Like the mills of god: grind slow but sure.

4. Mr.Dutt, while a nice actor (the only movie which i watched more than 5 times in my whole life was MunnaBhai MBBS) was a criminal and will remain as such until the sentence is complete.

In conclusion, while we hope for many MunnaBhai like movies in future (i.e after 6 years) he should pay for what he has done.

cheers,
k
