UP FOR GRABS?
One of India's largest state, UP accounts for a seventh of its population.
If UP was an independent state then it would be the sixth most populous in the world.
About 32 per cent of UP's population is below the poverty line, as against the national average of 24 per cent.
Over four out of 10 people in UP are illiterate, while the national average is just over three.
Only 32 per cent of UP's households have electricity and in per capita income, it is fourth from the bottom.
UP is known for its high criminal record and in spite of this there are only 74 policemen per every lakh persons.
