Infact this is even shown in the Hollywood Movie Alexander recently that Alexander himself said that was the toughest battle in his whole life, even though its shown in the movie that he won the battle with great difficult and loosing many men, I strongly doubt he would simply return back and died within few months on his way back after the battle with India.
