Political bias is amazing
by Milind on Apr 23, 2007 12:23 PM

I belong to that section of the society which has lost faith in the politicians irrespective of the party. However I do realize that if we dont exercise our right to vote, worse is yet to come.

It is amazing how bias affects a person's thinking.

If I am an ardent congress supporter, everything that they do is somehow justified. Whether it is minority appeasement, caste-based politics, Gandhi Dynaty. Everything has a reason.

If I am a BJP supporter, religion based politics seems ok.

If I am a CPIM supporter, I choose to ignore that gone is the time when mill workers were harassed by the industraliasts. Now worker unions ensure that workers work only during over-time.

How does this work? How does a person switch off and on reasoning selectively ? I can understand an uneducated person being asked to vote for the Hand (Congress) or the Saffron colour (BJP). How can we educated people allow generations of the Gandhi dynasty or Rabri Devi to be lawmakers ? What qualifications do they have ? Will we tolerate someone like them supervising us in our company ?

How come we educated people are led like sheep (to butcher) who dont know that they will soon be slaughtered ?

I think time has come to not vote for the party but for the person. All parties are made up of people. If we elect the right people, all parties will have the right people and which party comes to power really wont matter. For this logic to work, educated and professional people like us should start entering politics as independants. Only those should make entry who are already successful in their existing careers. That way, the only criteria would be Interest of the Nation. Not lust for power. I was hoping that when Dr.Manmohan Singh entered politics it was a begining. But alas a good apple turns rotten once kept in a basket full of rotten apples. Indeed this is a difficult proposition. Any suggestions ?
