Reservation to the backward castes is amply justifiable, due to historial reasons. But the persistent refusal of the Government to exclude the creamy layer is not understandable and makes its intention suspicious. Majority of the chief ministers of the country belong to the backward caste. Similarly, many of the prominent political personalities also belong to the backward caste. It is atrocious that these leaders continue with their insistence not to exclude the creamy layer. This shows, their kith and kin would be the beneficiries of the non-exclusion. If good sense had prevailed and if the government had excluded the creamy layer, perhaps, the Supreme Court may not have stayed the Act.
