RE:Hinduism
by Ramesh Nittoor on Apr 28, 2007 04:42 AM

Hinduism alas has become a mask for Casteism, but it not 'ONLY' that but bit more. There is Vedanta philocophy with not even a trace of caste in it, there are Upanishads and probably many other works with no reference to caste. Ofcourse most of the other scriptures refer to caste. Hinduism also had many reformers who worked against caste and either became a separate religion (like Buddhism, Jainism) or a separate caste themselves! Likewise Christianity have hundreds of sects and so does Islam. The political consolidation of OBC, DMK, Yadav parties and now BSP is a healthy development which consolidates multitudes of weak sub-castes into broader and stronger grouping. This is essential for better social and even economic development, for it reduces social inequality. Translating this political and social positive to Constitutional amendment may just be the classical overreach. They say the road to 'Constitutional' hell is paved with good political intentions!
