The concept of tax payers money is not given due respect and consideration in India.
Recently in the Virginia massacre an Indian professor (settled in the USA) Prof Loganathan was tragically shot. My solemn condolences. His parents in a little heard of town in Erode, did not possess passports and such official documents were readied immediately.
The Tamil Nadu government goes one step further and announces that it will pay for all the expenses of his parents and three other relatives from tax payers money. This would come up to a minimum of 5 lakhs for the tickets alone, if not more.
As much as I condole an intellectuals death, he was a private citizen of the US. I am certain as a tenured professor, he would have made sufficient amounts of money. He was not anyone of public importance in India.
I may be sounding insensitive here, but the fact remains that many Indians die abroad as well as in India. The government does not pay much attention to the many common deaths.
It seems to have a penchant for doing "good" at public expense, whenever a case is high profile and media worthy. We as the citizens of this country need to put a stop to this wanton, arbitrary use of taxpayers money.
If we the Gen X citizens do not protest regarding the many ills which plague our society who will? This is not about protesting blindly. This is more about debating the ills in a rational calm manner, which is constructive.
