The government's assistance for expediting the issue of passports to the bereaved family is understandable but for the government to bear the travel expenses is totally inapproproiate. Just because Prof Loganathan's death has occurred in a sensational incident that made international headlines does not qualify the family to receive financial assistance. Every year, a few Indians die abroad due to unnatural causes, say accidents or murders which don't appear in the news. Does the government foot the expenses for the relatives of such incidents to travel abroad for similar reasons? TN government's action will set a very bad precedence.
