You should go back 9 years to 1962 for longer memories. When China attacked India in 1962, our leaders appeal to the Soviet Union for help was turned down. The Soviet leaders said that they cannot turn against their brother (China) to help their friend (India). When our jawans were dying in the Himalayas (with no woollen clothes or weaponry -- thanks to Krishna Menon and Nehru), it was President Kennedy who not only sent us planes and supplies but also warned Pakistan not to take advantage of our vulnerability.
