The Indian judicial system cannot be aloof from the corruption malaise that has infiltrated all other walks of public life. I know a very good lawyer who told me some shocking things.
Judges of Sessions Courts, district courts, high courts and yes, even the Supreme court are corrupt to the extent that will shock you all.
In the 1980's, there was a highly publicised case of the death of Manjushree Sarda (in Pune) by the poison Potassium Cyanide. Her husband was convicted in both the Sessions and High Court, and the Supreme Court of India let him off! It was an open secret that the verdict of the Supreme Court bench was known beforehand to her husband's family, who had performed a "vijay Puja" a few days before the verdict was announced! It is said that the Chief Justice of India at that time (i won't name him, you can easily find out who) personally made sure that the bench acquited him.
In the Mumbai High Court, it is common knowledge that certain lawyers always favor a few judges to preside over their cases, and at times wait for the "bench to change."
My lawyer acqaintance told me that there is everything in the Indian judicial system, except justice.
