RE:think before say and do..
by Balu Anand on Oct 08, 2007 10:43 PM

According to the old system, a brahmin was not allowed to carry on the profession of other castes unless it is out of sheer necessity or poverty or self defence etc. He was only supposed to be a philosopher, interpreter of laws, teacher, priest etc. This means in effect, there was 100% reservation for others. I wonder why the present day Manus cannot bring a system where even 27% reservation is messed up. Each man to his talent is the maxim. Otherwise I wonder why Mayavati doesn't appoint any Dalit as her Party's president instead of herself.

Today more than 50% of the officers in the armed forces are brahmins. Depriving the brahmin of his original occupation will only adversely affect the lower castes. This is because he will occupy the next level viz that of the Kshatriyas, who will then push out the vaishyas and so on till the lowest castes will have nothing to do but become beggars and anti-social elements.

It is nice to talk about equality and all that. Maybe we are all born equal but we are not destined to live equally. .
