I do not know to whom you met in Bengal, but at least in my known circle I did find anyone who thought that English education is not necessary at the primary level. On the contrary people were very much against it, and kind of forced to choose English medium school for their children. And also I did not met people who are whole heartedly support every action taken by CPM. Also they do not like Congress either. May be I am just lucky or you are just unlucky. But "all the Bengalees started believing the party line" is a not a correct phrase. There are too many exceptions.
