A Quake of messages:
by Vistasp Hodiwala on Apr 03, 2007 12:35 PM

Even a casual glance at what passes for messages on any of rediff's many message boards is enough to convince any lay reader (halfway sensible) of the utter futility of it all. The issue could be just about any and the cause could be either grave or celebratory, but you can be pretty certain that most of the comments will be downright moronic and abusive. Groups of people will be going at each other's religion, caste or beliefs with venom and ferocity that is most unbecoming and more or less unintelligible.

That Rediff allows such gibberish to be spewed day in and day out does not frankly say much about the portal and in no way enhances its reputation as a thinking person's website. It's like announcing to all and sundry: come dearies, vent your prejudices, display your ignorance and well, have a field day!

Don't believe me? Check out the level of comments on a topic as somber as an earthquake in Pakistan. You may be mistaken for thinking that the topic under discussion is an Indo-Pak One Day. I may probably attract the same worthies post some inane comments in response to this post as well but hell, what do I care? You, the Service Provider should though, if you want to attract half-way sensible people to surf your portal.
