RE:accept it or not
by Ankush on Sep 29, 2006 10:26 AM

While I am all for 'liberating' gays, people supporting them should do their homework before crying of Konark, kamasutra and kokshastra

less then 10% of all sculptures at Konark relate to sex, and of these, a miniscule portion relates to homosexuality, which again is almost exclusively depicting women to women love. Hardly any sculpture depicts MSMs

There is only one chapter distantly relating to homosexuality in Kamasutra. It narrates eunuchs offering blow jobs in public bath houses. And the whole theme is not of glorification or acceptance but of disdain and disgust, with these people being considered lower than the basest animals

I do not know whether Kokshastra accepts homosexuality. Anyway, it is not a 'smriti' which can condone or condemn behaviour and only a middle ages cheap text, somewhat on the lines of 'Mastram' of out times.

It is a canard being spread by neo-liberals that ancient Hinduism condoned Homosexuality. All the 'smritis' and even Arthshastra have condemned homosexual behaviour. The irony is that while neo-liberals have no use for Hinduism or our culture otherwise, they dont hesitate to adopt it when it suits them
