why is the south doing well
by yobij on Nov 29, 2006 04:38 PM

the south is doing well alright, but this article very conveniently twists facts to suit its own ends.
china is a far from being a continuous civilization - people who live in china clearly realise the major disconnect that the cultural revolution had caused with the past
kerala in the south has one of the largest christian populations which has been overlooked by srinivasan. kerala also has a history of islamic influence that predates the northern invasions.
the south probably did well because it was the first to move away from reactionary protectionism of age old religious superstitions and embraced education and contact with the outside world.
the south's relative rejection of the hindutva brigade demonstrates its rejection of narrow interpretations of hindu culture which is probably another strong reason for success.
lets stop looking for people to blame for the failure of the north. we are to blame - accepting that is the first step to setting it right
