I whole heartedly agree with your view. Some schools are very well known for their selection process. i also know schools which impose restrictions on the mode of transport a student has to take to school, leave alone educational qualification of parents. Its not a herculean task making intelligent students score cent percent, let a school take up about 50-75 average students as assessed by Xth standard results and train them to score a centum in XIIth, then its really worth praising.
