Why reservation on caste basis?
by Pankaj Mishra on May 26, 2006 03:27 PM

I believe there should be no reservation in academics graduation-level onwards. Everyone should be competing on level grounds, without having undue advantages like reservation. It is totally unfair. I am of the opinion that backward classes/ people should be given monetary benefits like free primary education, free ration etc so as be make them capable to competing academically graduation-level onwards. After that it should be equal grounds for everyone. By giving reservations at professional levels we are defeating the whole purpose of professional education. We will be making doctors and engineers out of non-deserving canditates who will be ruining our future. While deserving candidates will not be having enough opportunities. I believe everyone should be given equal opportunities. It is not the fault of children belonging to upper-castes. They should be provided with equal opportunities in life. I would like the government to spend money not on increasing the seats in institutions to accomodate more OBCs/SCs/STs but on free primary education for them. Spend money to make their future bright instead of ruining the whole country by increasing the reservations.
