Well, if I was running a 100 meters race, I would want all the participants in the race to be equally well-fed and have the same oppurtunities I have. If not, I would not bloat about my winning.
The government is trying sincerely to level the playground. Have a little faith. Everyone needs the same access.
As for the people losing out on seats, 54% increase in the seats is actually going to facilitate 12% more seats for merit based selection and 27% more seats for reservation based selection. So for 100 seats, instead of selecting 73 merit and 27 reserved students, the government wants to expand (think billion people) to 112 merit and 42 reserved students. A guy who would earlier have competed for the 100th seat under the new plan competes for the 112th seat.
I think this should be implemented for their (OBC) sake for a few years ONLY! After a re-evaluation on a five year basis, this should be gradually abolished.
