Excuse me, cant work in India!
by Avinav on May 23, 2006 12:21 PM

Admitting the groups is not the issue, its about admitting those that have lived in society like all of us and are probably even better off than most of us middle-class folks. Why should a person who has just been branded a Dalit and in no way representative of his "community" be given preferential treatment? Because he KNOWS his community?? Give me a break! In India we've been brought up to forget that the caste system exists and thats what this generation believes in. Unknowingly (or knowingly?) the policy-makers are trying to divide India, but I'm sure we will come out resurgent.

And how many such communities will that one guy represent? India has a plethora of communities, castes, dialects. An action like this is no way representing their interests. The Business sense also, in turn, flows down the drain, if you get what I mean.

The better way in my opinion would be to go via a financial meter, where the truly less privileged ones have a higher chance. 50% makes absolutely no sense and backing it without good logic is sad. Dont let merit hurt. Failing to provide good primary/education facilities is no excuse for the govt to mess with the system.
