Redifining India
by Ravi on Mar 17, 2006 10:16 AM

The thoughts expressed in the essay are so lofty that they would seem relevent for a borderless world of the future. It is as if India as a concept is this borderless world itself. How very nice to think so to ourselves!. But, does the rest of the world think so. Sadly, we would be deluding ourselves if we continue to believe in this ideal for our daily sustenance.
If the past is any indication; simply look at our earlier policy of Non Allignment and the lofty principles of Panchsheel propounded by us to set a meaningful discourse with other nations of this world. These have not got us anywhere, confounded us in the ruthless logic of national self interest and earned us the odium of being a sly, self seeking and opportunistic country- a country that only preaches but practises the opposite.
It is time that we as a country stopped preaching and instead practised truthfulness. Yes the time has indeed come to define what we want to be in this world.
