Varanasi Act of Terrorism
by S. Ramesh on Mar 08, 2006 01:31 PM

While acts of any terrorism has to be condemned, the terrorist act on any place of worship should be condemned more. This is so, because, the motive of the attackers is well defined. They do not want just revenge against some act of state or against a particular cause. Their main aim to foment more back-lash of communal violence based on religion. We had had a recent example of what has happened at Lucknow. The UP Government stood as a mute spectator, not realising the potential of further violence. It is one thing to condemn the visit of US President and it is totally another thing to go on rampage during the period of protest. It is being said, let us allow the agencies concerned to conduct their investigations to nab the culprits. Given the notorious Indian Judicial System this may never happen as we wait for another hijack to take place so that we will hand over the captured terrorists in exchange for civilians. We have to formulate clear counter-terrorist act which will be followed by all governments irrespective of their political affiliations. Secondly, we should ban all types of protests which have religious overtones. The concerned political parties should be banned.
