While most of the things mentioned by Claude Arpi holds good, I don't totally agree with one- discrimination against the white tourist. While it is true that there is a separate fees for foreigners (not necessarily white-skinned) at most of the historical places, this phenomenon also exists in other places.
I have been in Malaysia for more than two years now and it is supposed to be one of the most tourist-friendly places. But wherever you visit, there is a separate fees for non-Malaysians (and even for us dark-skinned Indians). No one seems to mind it here.
