I could not agree more with the author of this article. An individual lives for self respect, the present system is demeaning to the individual, the society and the whole nation. I wonder why are the politicians never ashamed of what they propose. Mr Manmohan Singh and Mr PC Chidambaram are being intellectually dishonest if they say they endorse the proposals of Mr Arjun Singh, who is nothing more than an unscrupulous politician. The country has failed in providing good basic education to its children, we must make amends for our lapses, the village level schools have to become effective in providing good material to the country. Today hardly any village student can dare compete with a student from a city. Prime Minister Shastri was from a village as was Mr Jagjivan Ram, I wonder how his daughter can endorse the vulgar proposal. I recommend that the so called leaders shed hypocrisy and try improve the quality of village level education, unless this is done no amount of reservations can bring any good and if the basic education standards are improved reservations would not be required.
