I congratulate Prof.Gopinathan for outstanding remarks , equally applicable to medical institutes/ any higher center of learning.
I have been writing same messages in this column and could see few such remarks-once from Tuticorin medicos and in TOI of Dr .Md. Rela, a liver transplant surgeon, all came from quota class.
Though Prof. has rightly not mentioned the caste of his inspiring teacher, presume that he belonged to non-quota class. Whether such affinity will remain if the politicians do division on caste/class.
During 1982-85,I had been student of B.P.Mandalâs school friend â(by the time of Mandal I , I shifted to Ranchi). B.P. Mandal was from Madhepura in Mithilaâs portion in Bihar ( famous constituency of Lalu Pd.Yadav, one of the most illiterate districts of the country). Once, I saw my that teacher,Dr. B. N. Das Gupta, retd. Prof. Emeritus himself, stood up reflexly in his chamber, before a very old patient(and he told me that he was his schoolteacher!). Will such reverence be continued if caste-divide remains? I feel our brethrens in these categories will endorse Prof. Gopinathanâs remarks which are experienced truth not biased views of politicians.
