Nobody listens to you
by Sanat Agrawal on Jun 09, 2006 01:53 PM

Dear Professor,

At the outset, kudos for your thoughts.

However, I am pained to point out that hardly if anybody shall listen to you in this country, especially those who are the beneficiaries of the proposed system. Primarily because it is a numbers game.

Look at it this way. How many OBCs would be affected adversely by this decision? Only a handful who are actually meritorius and rise on their own. Their stakes are high as even though rising on theri own merit they will henceforth be looked at with scepticism.

On the other hand those who tend to benefit (howsoever unjustly and howsoever little) will be in large numbers. At the end of the day atleast till the IIT brand gets diminished by poor quality products, the early birds shall benefit to a more or lesser degree.

This would have been true not only for the OBCs. This would have been the result of any reservation. Whether based on caste, religion, economic, gender, region or any other factor.

While I respect your thoughts, I am deeply pained to say that I have written off on this country. There is a very apt chinese saying, "People get the ruler which they deserve"

Warm regards,
Sanat Agrawal
