I agree with everything except your logic on suggestion No. 3. I think it is wrong to be harsh about the accident being one's own fault. Ask yourself logically: Is it an Act of God? Is it an Act of Nature? Is it an Act of Man?
An Act of Man obviously in this case, that involves others. Every body movement is a Math science. Researching whether it remains just Algebra as with ordinary walking (for instance on a sidewalk, swinging one's arm) or a complexity that moves beyond Algebra to Calculus. In this case at least Calculus. As an Act, research could be as serious as Quantum Mechanics (involving optical illusions and 3-Ds) or, further, Fractional Iconic Math.
Note: Geometry and Trigonometry is different. It involves alpha numeric equations, cubic equations, wheel equations, Quantum Mechanics and Fractional Iconic Math. It is so far used in such things as The Law of Bouyancy in physics.
His distraction by the mouse and non-knowledge of the Act of Man he was about to fall into, produced Absentia Consciousness. What was a 5 year old's consciousness level upon returning, during the trauma and, sliding length of time of trauma.
