Nuclear deal
by K. K. Sinha on Jul 16, 2006 04:00 PM

About the nuclear deal many knowledgeable people have been apprehensive. It is not only because of duel face of the US (which sent its 7th fleet to Bay of Begal in 1972) but also because it ennuls the path of independence we have followed all along. The crisis has come on account of our leaders not caring for prospecting and mining in the past. Now the power reactors are starving for fuel. But we must be wary of signing the agreement with IAEA that will open up our non power reactor facilities in perpetuity. Accountability and inspection only for the fuel supplied by outsiders. Never on our own FBTR and other reprocessing facilities. The people have to be watchful if the govt and the scientists working on extension are buckling under US pressure.
