Nuclear Deal, Secretary Saran;s comments
by dr bms rao on Jul 15, 2006 06:18 PM

Mr Saran's statement that some provisions of the US legislation 'may be unpalatable' is both an understatement and evasive. The real question is Whether the US provisions override, so far as US is concerned, any agreement US may sign with India.

Similarly his statement ""I can only state that those who are in the position to make an informed judgment on the needs of our credible minimum deterrent have concluded otherwise." The question is not someone has concluded but Who and On what basis.

Not too long after UPA accession to power Natwar Singh, then External Affairs Minister was reported in the media to have said that the development and exploding of the Bomb by Vajpayee government was a mistake.

Not merely scary, it is chilling.
