I do not agree with geekay. Even during the Mahabharat war, Arjuna was faced with a Dilema whether to fight or not fight. The Lord has shown him various paths and finally he chose the path of Action as Arjuna was a karmayogi. The Lord told Arjuna if you win this war you will be honoured and if you die you will go to heavan.
Its better to die with honour and go to heaven rather than live a life filled with shame and dis-honour.
