The Sabarimala Belief
by rahul on Jul 06, 2006 10:38 AM

Sabarimala Ayyapan was proposed to by Malikapurathamma ( the devi sitting in the temple on the way to Sabarimala ) What Ayyappan told her was he will marry her in the year when no Kanni Ayyappan ( Ayyappans who come in Sabarimala for the first time ) has visited the year. Till then the Sabarimala Ayyappan will be a brahmachari.

The Saramkuthi is a place where all new ayyappans will mark that they are Kanni Ayyappans to Malikapurathamma. So that she can know if any new ones are there or not.

This is the common belief about Sabarimala Ayyappan. Ayyappan might be in the form of married in other places. But in Sabarimala this is the belief. So if anyone who visits there with belief should oblige to the rules put by the Temple Committee. Its only after Ayyappan said this in Deveprasnam, the comittee put this rule up.

So consider this as a part of belief and rituals - not something against women as such.
