I have lived most of my life in cities and that might be one of the reasons for my bewilderment about the whole issue. I never was taught in my school or at home that we belonged to the so-called upper castes and hence were privileged. Nobody in my circle cared about somebody's caste. Only when I had to fill in applications for higher education that I realized that I had to compete in the Open Category. An acquaintance of mine from a well off family who scored 20 points less than me got into a premier educational institution while I had to contend with engineering in a not so great college. We have to become part of the solution and vow to not vote for any party that favors reservation in higher education but refuses to genuinely investigate the Pros and Cons of reservation.
