RE:CPI
by Omkar Patki on Feb 12, 2006 08:58 PM

With due respect to Mr. N. Padmanabhan, I would like to say one thing here, that in India, people have always voted the person and not the party. Otherwise, Indira Gandhi could not have split Congress in 1969 and Narayan Rane could not have won from Malwan. Mr. Padmanabhan says that when we'll vote the individual rather than the party, parties will have to induct good people in their ranks. No. Precisely opposite to that is happening in Indian politics. Because we vote for the people and not for the party, people outgrow the parties in size and party high command sometimes is unable to keep a proper check on them. In fact, party cannot get rid of such people because they get elected. This ' electability ' at any cost is becoming the primary qualification for any candidate in the election. So, CPI which lacks such people is losing out.
