The real culprit is in fact our system and time. We can understand that an incident like the Kanishka Bombing taking years to be investigated and tried in court. But the Jessica Lal Case coming to court and for a verdict to take 7 long years is a failure of our system. Any reports ballastic/forensic etc. in this case should not have taken longer than 1 or 2 months. Why then did it take so many years, when the case could have been decided and shut within 6 months at max? Is it not a failure of our system ? Perhaps time must have muted the eyewitnesses sensibilities to Jessica. I was in college at that time and i remember feeling outrage at the incident reading it in the papers. But when the verdict was given I had to jostle my memory cells to recollect the case. This in effect is due to the passage of time...though for the family members of Jessica, this time would have been painful...they had to wait so long for the verdict...and suffer after the acquittal. Perhaps if the verdict had been fast, they would have got on with their lives....
